Stakeholders
Through the auspices of the Oceans Act, DFO ultimately has the direct responsibility for identifying, designating and managing MPAs. However, such a broad undertaking cannot be accomplished alone. Stakeholder cooperation and coordination at the local, regional, interagency and institutional level has been a significant factor leading up to the development of the Gilbert Bay MPA. All the stakeholders and users of Gilbert Bay have a role and responsibility to take the MPA and its objectives into account while using its resources. It is the sum of the collaborative efforts and the work of all stakeholders involved that will ensure that the ecological features of the Gilbert Bay MPA can be protected and conserved.
